What are the ruling planets in astrology?
In Astrology, every zodiac sign is ruled by a specific planet, sometimes two! These planets share an energy with the signs they rule, and that energy is ultimately manifested in us as individuals. As a result, when you connect with or identify with your zodiac sign, you’re also connecting with that zodiac sign’s planetary ruler. It’s a great idea to get to know your planet better, because in the process you’ll get a deeper understanding of not only your zodiac sign but how you can use astrology to improve your life.
How are ruling planets in astrology used?
Planets are used in astrology to help describe personality traits. The ruling planet for each zodiac sign is different, though there is some overlap because we can use both traditional and modern styles of astrology to find the planetary ruler of a zodiac sign.
Astrologers include the moon and the sun as planets, which in addition to the others gives us ten planets to work with. Each zodiac sign has a corresponding planet that shares an energy that is ultimately manifested in parts of us. This planet is known as the zodiac sign’s “planetary ruler.” One or two particular planets will end up having specific importance for you, and these are the planets that rule over your Ascendant or Rising Sign.
How can a Birth Chart Reading determine your ruling planet?
Each birth chart has a Sun Sign, a Moon Sign and a Rising Sign (or Ascendant). Those are what Astrologers call “The Big Three” and they are the first places we look when analyzing a birth chart (aka your natal chart). Your Rising Sign determines the planetary ruler of your chart, and this planet has a lot to say about who you are!
Which planet rules my zodiac sign?
Curious to know which planet rules your chart? We must first find out what your Rising Sign is. Once we know this, we can determine your chart ruler. Here is a list of Rising Signs and their corresponding planetary ruler:
ARIES – MARS: Mars is the planet of initiation and action
TAURUS – VENUS: Venus is the planet of beauty and love
GEMINI – MERCURY: Mercury is the planet of communication and learning
CANCER - THE MOON: The Moon rules our emotional nature
LEO - THE SUN: The Sun rules our personality
VIRGO – MERCURY: Mercury is the planet of communication and learning
LIBRA – VENUS: Venus is the planet of beauty and love
SCORPIO – MARS and PLUTO: Mars is the planet of initiation and action, and Pluto is the planet of transformation and evolution
SAGITTARIUS – JUPITER: Jupiter is the planet of expansion and abundance
CAPRICORN – SATURN: Saturn is the planet of structure and responsibility
AQUARIUS – SATURN and URANUS: Saturn is the planet of structure and responsibility while Uranus is the planet of rebellion and eccentricity
PISCES – NEPTUNE and JUPITER: Neptune is the planet of transcendence and imagination while Jupiter is the planet of expansion and abundance
